Clogged sinks are a common household problem. There are various ways by which drains can be cleaned out but the inconvenience caused is very stressful and irritating. There could be many reasons for clogging of drains like food residues, excessive hair accumulation, build ups of detergent in the pipes and many more.
Presently, there are numerous methods to unclog the drains like treating them with chemicals, white vinegar and even tools like plunger. However, when your plunger fails to unclog a drain one can use an electric snake. This can also be called as an auger.
Below is the working and usage of an electric auger to be used in case you fail to dissolve the clog by above methods.
Basically, an electric snake is a metal cable with a cork screw auger at the end of the cable. The first and the foremost consideration is to wear gloves as it could be messy working with the clogged drains.
This tool is used to push the damn material inside the pipeline that is causing a clog. Move the auger until the sink begins to drain properly.
The head of the auger consists of a corkscrew that gets rotated inside the drain to take out the debris. Make sure, you rotate the corkscrew properly. Slowly pull the snake out of drain. Things may get messy at this point as the clog will might be attached to the head of the snake.
Try using a snake multiple times if the first time does not unclog the drain. Well, this can surely happen if huge amount of build up is accumulated in the drain since long time or even if the clog is very hard to remove. Add 2 to 3 bucket of hot or plain water into the drain. Lastly, clean the auger.
There are instances when you are unable to clear up the drains, you must admit your failure and go for plumber. They help technically solving the problem quickly and without further damage.
