We’ve received a lot of feedback from our “Joy of Soy” article and from customers who are just discovering natural soy candles. I thought I’d spend some time researching articles comparing soy with paraffin wax. Finding articles was easy; but what I soon learned was that the opinion of the author was usually swayed by the products he or she was recommending. Other than my own experience of burning and testing thousands of soy candles, I’m still working on putting together a comprehensive list of articles (unbiased) by profit-motives.
I met with a wax sales person last week. Very nice guy, but the lunch meeting kind of lost its potential after I discovered that his company only supplied paraffin-based candle wax. He was not motivated to sell me soy, but instead spent the hour trying to convince me that I should consider a “soy/paraffin” blend. I guess many so-called soy candle companies actually mix soy with paraffin but promote the candles as soy.
I couldn’t agree with mixing the waxes, as that would go against our core philosophy of staying with a natural soy bean wax only. And I think our customers would let me know rather quickly if I tried to “pull one over on them” buy diluting our natural soy with a paraffin mix. So let me know via this blog, email, or give us a call to tell me your opinion of soy vs. paraffin wax! We’re planning on posting testimonials on our site www.zionsvillecandlecompany.com. OK, let me switch gears.
Thought I’d let you know that we’re starting to test a soy/bee’s wax all natural lip balm. It’s fun sampling all the different flavors and starting to play around with formulas. I’m kind of
motivated personally to come-up with a great lip-balm because I go through tons of Burts Bees. I love the stuff but want to mix my own formula focusing on adding a bit of soy. If you have any suggestions on flavors, let me know. I definitely want to do a wintergreen, peppermint, and possibly orange flavor.
Until next time,
Chris
