03 Sep 10 Microwave Cooking Tips

o Round dish must be used for cooking. It gives more result than rectangle or square dishes. Flavour of the herbs and spices is increased in microwave cooking, reduce the quantity to half while cooking

o Set the cooking time of the microwave according to the type of food you are cooking. While cooking in the microwave make sure that the dish is covered properly with a lid or plastic wrap.

o Arrange food in dish so that the thicker part is on the outside and the thinner part inside for more even cooking. Food must not be piled one on top of the other. In a microwave food always cooks evenly when spaced apart.

o Place one-tablespoon oil, one-cup tomato puree, one-cup tomato paste, and salt and pepper to taste in a micro-safe dish and cook on High for about 6 minutes.

o Food continues to cook when removed from the microwave cooker, by the heat generated within it. So always take into account standing time.

o Add low fat cheese and other toppings near the end of cooking to keep the top from becoming tough or soggy.

o If the food has been cooked with a cover leave it covered for the standing time. If it was cooked uncovered add a loose covering of foil to retain the heat.

o Always make provisions for the steam to escape from the covered dish. So you can make holes on the plastic wrap or loosen the lid while cooking.

o Place one-tablespoon oil, one-cup tomato puree, one-cup tomato paste, and salt and pepper to taste in a micro-safe dish and cook on High for about 6 minutes.

o Never microwave the dishes covered in Alluminium foil or any metallic material . It may generate sparks.

o Ceramic wares can also be used but make sure that they don’t have any metallic rim as they may cause arcing. Food items containing high proportion of fat and sugar should not be used in glass utensils, otherwise they can be used commonly.
